Bishop George Sumner tries to triangulate his ethical woes

Bishop George Sumner preached in Texarkana today. In his sermon, he appears to be teeing up for coming legal and clergy disciplinary issues involving #churchtoo and a young woman connected to St. James. But he takes no accountability and offers no confession, even as sources tell us he and rector Holt continue to falsely tell parishioners they did not fire Rich Daly in retaliation for opposing sexual harassment of women in the parish. And for the record, there is more than one woman who has been harassed.

MLK Letter from Birmingham Jail to two Episcopal Bishops

It will soon be 60 years since the Rev. Martin Luther KIng, Jr., penned his famous letter from the Birmingham jail. In it, he decried the role of white “moderates” in perpetuating racism, and sent it to two Episcopal bishops. That begs the question: Is your “moderate” Episcopal parish part of the problem? Are you part of the problem?

These are meaningful questions to ask this Lent.
