Anglican Watch has learned from a reliable source that there has been a criminal referral involving the conflict at St. Paul’s, Montvale. The referral involves potentially illegal conduct by Jeff Piatt and Beth Abrahamson, including possible tax evasion, money laundering, and theft of church financial records. The referral also references Montvale Landscaping.
While we cannot predict the outcome, we can report that the referral was not made to local law enforcement. Additional referrals to the IRS and banking regulators are believed imminent.
All persons are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of competent jurisdiction. A criminal referral should not be interpreted as evidence of guilt on the part of any person or organization.
We will provide an update later this week on the bishop’s visit earlier today and other news from the ongoing conflict with the dissidents, including allegations that the protestors have engaged in vandalism and other possibly criminal activity.
Several in the group are already facing criminal charges for defiant trespass after entering the property, despite receiving actual notice from the church vestry that they are forbidden from doing so.
