Update: Episcopal priest Daniel McClain ordered to submit virtual home visit to Ohio courts

A review of the Dayton Ohio Court of Common Pleas docket reveals that Episcopal priest Daniel McClain and his wife Kate have been ordered to submit virtual home visits in the ongoing divorce litigation. While we have no doubt that Kate’s virtual home visit will go well, Anglican Watch staff broham are rolling on the floor with laughter at the prospect of Dan McClain and his adulterous paramour, Erin O’Rourke, participating in the visit.

To be clear: We are not familiar with virtual home visits as implemented by the Ohio courts, so we may be entirely off-base. But we can imagine lots of fun with such a visit.

Consider: Duplicitous Dan has repeatedly petitioned the Court, seeking a reduction in his legal support obligations for his wife and three younger children—even though his total support payment appears to be less than $1,000 a month.

That begs the question: Even in a low-cost area like Ohio, who can raise three kids on that sum? Good heavens — this author’s monthly tab for groceries, which is for just one person, is more than that. A lot more.

But fear not—Erin, Dan’s adulterous partner, must be picking up the tab for the new O’Rourke/McClain rental digs, which were previously listed for rent at $2,570 per month. Guess the Nature Conservancy pays HR generalists better than we thought.

And to be clear, the O’Rourke/McClain crib is not just fly. It’s downright Gucci.

While the house, curiously, gets low scores for being bike accessible — odd, given McClain’s interest in cycling — it features a gas fireplace, walk-in closets, jacuzzi, even a two-car garage for the $1,000 mountain bikes the supposedly impoverished Dan McClain bought his kids.

Parental alienation much, Dan?

Of course, in any video like this, someone’s gotta play the role of Vanna White. As in, “Behind this door, we have the $1,000 mountain bike — perfect for the kid who has everything!”

That begs the question: Does Erin get star billing? And how does Dan explain being legally married, while setting up house with another woman?

Not to mention — we’re betting a virtual tour of the O’Rourke/McClain crib reveals plenty of additional evidence that Dan is engaging in an ongoing pattern and practice of self-help and parental alienation.

  1. Marshall Ben Day of Kennesaw and Dan McClain have a lot in common. They both enjoy cycling and moved up in the real estate world with one single adulterous relationship. Hope Ben gets the Dan McClain treatment soon and gets booted from priesthood.

  2. The math may work no matter.

Glassdoor states the salary range for a HR Generalist at the Conservancy is 62-95k with an average of 77k. Rental at 2,570/mo is $30,840. Assuming he makes at least 35k and she makes the 77k average that’s a total of $112k per year. 30% of 112k is a bit over the rental cost, and 30% is a typical % for rental to income.

Courts don’t normally consider the unmarried partners income into account in determining child support. In above example the court very well may only base his child support on a salary of 35k while he lives with a person who makes more giving a greater combined income.

Not in Ohio. Law may be different.

    1. Can you tell we’re not fans of Dan McClain?

His new gig with the Reynoldsburg Schools appears to pay just shy of $80K, assuming they move ahead with what we believe is a really awful hiring decision. And we’re pretty sure Dan is getting paid under the table by the bike shop.

If the courts impute Dan’s income, which would be fair, since he has willfully poked a finger in the Diocese’s eye with his adultery, Dan comes in at just shy of $100k, or possibly higher, since TEC clergy come heavily loaded with fringe.

But hey—Dan says he can’t afford to feed his kids, but he can afford $1,000 bikes for them. Go figure.

  3. Woman wants divorce. Man moves on. Anglican Watch wants man out of parish and ministry. Man moves on. Man gets new job to support family. Anglican Watch complains man has gotten job to support family and seeks to make man destitute again.

    1. 1. You are mischaracterizing our position and you know that.
      2. Our issue with Dan McClain is his dismal behavior, which continues unabated.
      3. If Dan has gotten a job in order to support his family, why is he seeking a REDUCTION in his support obligations?
      4. Dan has no business working with children or other vulnerable populations. Indeed, his conduct is unacceptable among adults—why would you entrust him with children?
      5. As the Diocese itself has noted, regardless of who initiated the divorce, he remains legally married to his wife. As a priest, he has made a vow before God to live a exemplary life. How is adultery an exemplary life? Or trying to have his kids live with him and his adulterous partner?
      6. Your comments in this instance are about as sensible as your last batch, with your ludicrous assertions that Dan hasn’t faced criminal charges.
      7. Read, ponder, and inwardly digest the bit about imputed income.
      8. As we stated previously, you are an idiot if you run interference for Dan.

    2. Destitute again?

How could Dan be destitute, either previously or again, when he’s running around buying $1,000 bikes for his kids? Even as he seeks to reduce his legal support obligations?

      My Rx for Matriarch Mama:
      1. Fill bucket with ice water
      2. Soak head for 30 minutes
      3. Lather.
      4. Rinse
      5. Repeat
      6. When done, shake head to remove water from between ears.

    3. If Dan really is moving on, why doesn’t he resign his ordination? He is spectacularly unsuited for ministry.

In fact, the parish could use the savings to fund the forensic audit discussed in the clergy disciplinary complaint against Dan. Since he says he hasn’t misappropriated parish funds, a clean forensic audit would confirm that he’s not a thief, so I can’t imagine he’d have any objections.

      1. Yup. Dan appears to be a narcissist of the first order. All this BS about, “Don’t ever do that again, or I will accept your immediate resignation,” etc.

Who TF does he think he is? By any objective measure, he is a false prophet, dishonest, a lousy writer, a feckless proofreader, and a scholar of questionable veracity; he’s not exactly handsome, either.

Roll in allegations of alcohol and drug abuse, recurring extramarital affairs, bullying his children, and his Machiavellianism, and Dan McClain becomes someone both loathsome and pathetic. Certainly not a leader in any real sense.

As for Matriarch Mama, the fact s/he uses a VPN to visit the site is telling.
