Calling BS on Michael Curry

Presiding Bishop Michael Curry lovebombing

Earlier today, presiding bishop Michael Curry issued a statement about church discipline and accountability. We are calling BS on him.

For starters, his effort to address this issue is pure politics. By pushing the matter to the Standing Committee on Constitution and Canons, Curry is trying to keep the matter at arm’s length.

Second, Curry has ignored multiple complaints that have landed on his desk, including:

  • Pleas for help from Richard Losch’s victim.
  • Complaints about Bishop George Sumner, who has personally retaliated against clergy opposing the sexual harassment of women.
  • Complaints about bishops who simply ignore the provisions of Title IV.

Third, the priority in all Title IV cases from the moment a complaint is filed is a pastoral response. There are myriad cases in front of the new intake officer for Title IV complaints against bishops, all without any pastoral response. We want Curry to honor this requirement and do it now. And it’s his responsibility—not that of the Standing Commission on Constitution and Canons.

As for Todd Ousley, he has no business training bishops. He has repeatedly sandbagged complaints, and we won’t tolerate his fun and games. Nor will we tolerate his fabrications that the PB has no authority to discipline bishops.

It is time to clean house and rid the Episcopal Church of corrupt bishops.
