We don’t usually pitch books or commercial products, but this one is too good to pass up. Disobedient Women: How a Small Group of Faithful Women Exposed Abuse, Brought Down Powerful Pastors, and Ignited an Evangelical Reckoning.
The book focuses on the women bloggers/investigative reporter who blew the whistle on abuse in the evangelical denominations. These so-called disobedient women also have called out complementarianism, misogyny, bullying, and abuse of power. And in doing so, they’ve shown meaningful compassion for others — not the milquetoast, I-don’t-want-to-make-waves feckless Christianity we see in far too many churches and denominations today.
Among those covered are a dear friend, Dee Parsons, Amy Smith, and several fellow bloggers. All have labored tirelessly, and often in the face of enormous criticism and pressure, to bring light to the darkness.
Anglican Watch is grateful for the support and encouragement of all involved, and especially to Dee Parsons for covering the spiritual abuse in the Episcopal Church that led to this publication. And her story about spending the first three years writing, hoping someone would find the blog, resonates for us.
We too went for years before anyone found us, and we’re glad to finally be able to be a voice for those facing abuse or misconduct within the church. And we are grateful for the mutual encouragement and support of our fellow bloggers.
