Local media reported in December 2021 that Alexandria Va. police were investigated drug possession and distribution at Episcopal High School, which is located adjacent to Virginia Theological Seminary.
The investigation began when mail room employees spotted what appeared to be illegal drugs in a damaged box shipped to a student. School officials identified several other shipments to the student that contained illicit narcotics.
On Dec. 8, police responded to a narcotics complaint at Episcopal and met with the school’s attorney, according to a search warrant affidavit. The officer was told that a week prior, on Dec. 1, two students were found to be allegedly under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Previously, the student was one of two found by school officials to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Both students immediately withdrew from the school.
Included in the illegal shipments were:
- 20 grams of suspected Psilocybin mushrooms
- 26 suspected Xanax pills and 1.2 grams of suspected methamphetamine
- 1.3 grams of suspected cocaine
- Five suspected Ecstasy pills
The news follows a 1996 situation in which 25 students were found to be abusing Ritalin.
In 2006, a school employee, Baron Heinemann made a social media post blaming President Obama for racial unrest in the county. He apologized for his remarks and left his position with the school soon after. He is now employed by a Christian school in Texas.
