In August 2021 two adult female victims sued the Episcopal Diocese of New York and Christ Episcopal Church in Rye, New York for sexual abuse by lay organist Felix McGuire between 1967 and 1977. One victim alleged that McGuire forced her to touch his penis, raped, drugged, and sodomized her at the church and elsewhere when she was a child. The other victim alleged that McGuire kissed her, fondled her breasts, and otherwise sexually abused her at the church and elsewhere when she was a child.
The suit alleges that the Diocese of New York and Christ’s Church, Rye had “knowledge that McGuire had the propensity to sexually abuse children” and allowed him “to continue to have his role and position of authority and power” for four and a half decades.
McGuire died in 1996.
