Spotlight on abuse: Episcopal priest Ignacio Aymerich

the Rev. Ramon Ignacio Aymerich was received into the Episcopal Church in the Diocese of Western New York from the Roman Catholic Diocese of Buffalo in 1982.

He was called to the Episcopal Diocese of Bethlehem in December 1983 and undertook “Anglican Year” studies at the General Theological Seminary in 1984.

He was vicar of Iglesia de Santa Maria in Reading, Pennsylvania, in the Diocese of Bethlehem, beginning in 1984.

He also served for 12 years at at St. James in the Hills Episcopal Church, Hollywood Hills in the Diocese of Southeast Florida.

He was then priest associate for Latino Work in the Episcopal Diocese of Newark, living in Teaneck, New Jersey. Aymerich was next priest in the Episcopal Diocese of Massachusetts at St. John’s Church and St. Anne’s Church in Lowell from 2004 to 2008.

He was named publicly by the Catholic Diocese of Buffalo in October 2019 as having two substantiated allegations of child abuse from his time as a Roman Catholic priest. Bishop Alan Gates of Massachusetts notified clergy and wardens in his diocese to a clerical disciplinary inquiry on October 25, 2019. Bishop Sean Rowe of Northwestern Pennsylvania also issued an announcement on October 23, 2019. Aymerich moved to Medellín, Colombia in 2019.
