Spotlight on abuse: Episcopal priest Rex Douglas Perry and Selwa Perry

Episcopal priest Rex Perry and Selwa Perry

Episcopal priest Rex Perry and Selwa Perry Perry was assistant to the dean of Nashotah House and its director of development for four years coinciding with underage sexual assault cases that resulted in prison sentences for three seminarians. Perry was cited in related police investigations of seminary culture for consensual adult sexual relations between faculty and seminarians. He was rector of the Church of the Incarnation in Dallas, Texas, from 1992 until his May 1996 arrest for masturbating in a public bathroom and groping and soliciting an undercover male police officer for sex. As rector of Incarnation, Perry was a high-profile opponent of gay and lesbian inclusion in The Episcopal Church, as well as the ordination of women to the priesthood. Perry then served as Canon to the Ordinary of the Episcopal Diocese of Louisiana, where his wife Selwa Perry resigned in 2005 after admitting she misappropriated diocesan funds for the family’s use. Perry next became rector of Grace Episcopal Church, Sheboygan ( Episcopal Diocese of Fond du Lac) in 2005. Perry “retired” at 54 in 2009, when he became an addiction counselor and his wife became a funeral director.
