Spotlight on abuse: Episcopal School of Texas

Anglican Watch: Fr. Alan Sapsford

In 2011, the Episcopal School of Texas, a private boarding school in Texas with a military tradition, was accused of ignoring multiple incidents of bullying and terroristic threats against a student from California. The threats included allegedly waving a lighted blowtorch in the student’s face and repeatedly threatening to rape him.

The student and his family allege that they complained repeatedly about the bullying and were told it would stop, but it did not.

The boy’s family removed him from the school after a visit to home, in which he complained of ongoing mistreatment.

One student ultimately was charged with making terroristic threats, but other criminal charges were dropped due to lack of evidence.

The family filed suit against the school alleging various causes of action, but the outcome is unclear.
